Where were you when Blessings wasn’t even called Blessings?

We were in seemingly endless discord calls knocking all sorts of designs, concepts and direction back and forth at each other akin to a game of tennis whereby each player wanted to win but had no idea how they would plan on beating the next opponent if they did so. In the next rounds they would have to face some fearsome foes like: How do I make all of this work? How do I make sure this is different? What is our concept? What sort of people will wear our clothes? How should we market ourselves? Do I even still care? That last one proved to be particularly tough as it was what led to this operation from being a quartet to becoming a trio. All parties had long since known the writing was on the wall (apart from the owner of this magazine for some reason)

However from that point forward it signified a shift in not only passion and commitment but also quality of work. At times prior to this, it felt like we stranded on an island of mediocrity begging for someone to come save our souls. With the fear of futility looming, we instead built our own boat and proudly set out for the seas with a newfound confidence and our sails drawn high - now brandishing the name: Blessings Personally, while initially disappointed the name had to change along with the corresponding logo for seemingly arbitrary reasons, I thought Blessings had a nice punch to it and immediately a million new things came to mind regarding how I would like to shape our image. This led to me immediately gathering references and inspiration in an effort to do just that. As opposed to the pre-name-change era, building our aesthetic and attempting to carve out our own niche was surprisingly smooth as the obvious religious connotations and my love all things reminiscent of anything digital proved to be a match made in heaven (pun absolutely intended)

Internally, this was the point where it felt like we first had something worthwhile and tangible. Before, any worries were quelled by the increasingly flimsy mantra of “we’re three really talented people from totally different backgrounds and we have all the skills - how could this not work out???” Although, depending on who you ask, this is true it wouldn’t be enough to will this whole thing into existence especially with bigger and bigger ideas being brought up everyday on how we can transform this from just a brand to a collective. About a million designs, a million more calls and a few bumps along the way later, we eventually land in the present with Prologue™ - the first collection by Blessings. Ironically this drop doesn’t possess a central concept or theme, it’s more about establishing ourselves and our aesthetic. In a way Blessings is the concept and if you’re reading this now then I appreciate you’ve invested in us and I hope you stick around because there’s more cool stuff coming.
